Ambejogai & Parli - Vaijnath

We went to Ambejogai - our kulaswamini, this weekend. Ambejogai is renowned holy place of Goddess Yogeshwari. It is also famous for being the birthplace of Marathi Adyakavi Mukundraj Swami. This city has earned great repute in the education field. At one time it was regarded as the Pune of Marathwada as it had the best educational institutes in Marathwada then. Ambajogai has the Rural Medical College, which is popular in the area. One can reach Ambejogai either by road or by train. It is well connected by bus to almost all cites of Maharashtra and nearby places in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. In addition to state transport buses, private luxury bus services are available for connecting the various cities in Maharashtra. From Pune to Ambajogai, there are mostly, non A/C , sleeper or seating, buses. The terrif ranges between Rs 250/- to Rs 350/-. If you go by train, then Latur Exp & Mumbai-Nanded Exp (get down at Parbhani) are the two options from Mumbai. Latur is 50 km away from Ambejogai while Parbhani is about 100 km. You can hire the car for a day & visit Ambejogai & Parli-Vaijnath.

We decided to drive to Pune and take the sleeper coach bus from there to Ambejogai. We started on 27th Feb night & reached the destination on 28th Feb morning. We had already booked a room in 'Hotel Krishnai', which is close from Ambejogai Bus Stand. One can also go to Yatri Niwas which is just opposite to the temple. The hotels here are not the greatest as people come here just for the Darshan of kulswamini. They need a hotel room just to get ready before going for Devi's Darshan. One can also stay at Guruji's residence. Generally, the people coming for the Darshan perform Abhisheka for the Devi, for which you have to inform Guruji before hand. The Abhisheka is performed only upto 12 noon, so you have to be in the temple atleast by 11am. The Panchmi(5th day), Ashtami(8th day) of the fortnights and the Pournima(15th/full moon day) of Hindu Panchanga are considered to be holy days for Darshana of any Devi. We went on Pournima.
After Darshana & performing Abhisheka, we can proceed to Parli-Vaijnath temple.

Parli Vaijnath is situated in Beed District. Swayambhu & Jagrit Sthan of Lord Sri Vaijnath, one of the twelve places of Jyotirling in India. Sri Ahilyabai Holker renovated this temple. It is an imposing & majestic temple on a hill. As one enters the premises of the temple spacious stone steps and lofty Mahadwar attracts one's attention. Parli is about 25 km away from Ambejogai. One can get there by state transport bus or auto. It took us about 2 1/2 to 3 hrs to return back to Ambejogai. On night of the 28th we boarded the sleeper coach bus to take us back to Pune. From Pune we drove to Mumbai.

  1. The unique thing i like about this devi temple is the prasad they serve. Its called "Tambul" and its made with tobacco leaves. Once tasted, u can never forget its taste.
There is also a place called "Hattikhana" near the Ambejogai temple. It is worth visiting. Locals tell a great story of this place.
Also another 50-60 kms off parli, there is another shiv temple called as "Ondhya Nagnath".
